Description
The Scott Aerator Solar Powered DA-20 Display Aerator (4-Panel) provides attractive water features with environmental advantages.
The Solar Powered DA-20 Display Aerator (4-Panel) combines clean, solar-powered aeration with a fountain look, making it perfect for remote spots where standard electricity isn't available or is expensive.
This aerator moves up to 300 gallons of water per minute in a pleasing, adjustable pattern reaching about 5 feet high and spreading 9 to 20 feet wide. This strong water flow helps manage surface algae, keeps water clear, deters insects, and adds oxygen to the pond. More oxygen supports fish health and speeds up the breakdown of organic material at the pond bottom, reducing muck over time.
Featuring a submersible, oil-free stainless steel motor, this aerator is built to last, needs no maintenance, and is an environmentally friendly choice.
Designed for daytime use, the unit runs on solar energy, adjusts speed based on sunlight, and turns off automatically at night. Its solar panels gradually increase water flow with changing sunlight, avoiding the need for expensive batteries often required by other solar aerators.
Like all Scott Aerator Company products, the DA-20 Solar Aerator is designed for simple winterization. Just leave the aerator in the water, disconnect the power, and it will be ready for use when the water thaws in the spring. All parts are made to handle freezing temperatures without damage.
This system includes the DA-20 Display Aerator, four solar panels with a frame, a disconnect box, a Fhoton™ drive solar inverter, and necessary wiring. You will need to provide a pole to support the panels and frame, a concrete base for the pole, and two ropes with weights or ties to anchor the aerator.
Proudly made in the USA, the DA-20 Solar Aerator includes a 5-year full warranty on the motor and comes with 70 feet of tough, 12-gauge submersible power cord, with longer cords available up to 150 feet.
This unit works in both fresh and saltwater.
Please disconnect power when swimming is happening.
Installation
1. Assemble The Unit
Putting together Scott Aerator Fountains usually takes 15-20 minutes. Instructions are included with your fountain. Fountain kits contain:
- Pump with attached round cover and power cable
- Square floating platform
- Protective stainless steel filter
- Decorative nozzle (not for the DA-20)
- 5/16"x2" stainless steel bolts
- Stainless steel nuts & washers
- Self-tapping stainless steel screws
Tools Needed: A wrench (or socket driver) and pliers.

Assembly Steps:
- Place the fountain body on a steady surface with the pump outlet facing up.
- Attach nylon rope (not included) to the two stainless steel loops for anchoring the fountain.
- Position the float and secure it using the provided 5/16" x 2" bolts, washers, and nuts.
- Flip the fountain over, remove the Styrofoam ring, and insert the stainless steel filter, lining up the holes with the marks on the filter. Secure the filter with the three self-tapping screws provided.
2. Attach Lights (Skip if lights were not ordered)
Scott Aerator fountain light kits easily attach to the square floating platform. Light kits include:
- (2) or (4) LED light fixtures with power cable
- 1/2" bolts & nuts
- (2) or (4) stainless steel arm brackets
- Timer/control unit
- Remote control (for color-changing lights only)
Tools Needed: Wrench & Pliers
*Important: The included timer/control unit is required for light operation. Do not disconnect the cord from the control unit, as this will void the light warranty.

Assembly Steps:
- Attach each arm assembly to the water feature, making sure the arms are positioned with “L” facing up. Remove one of the 2" bolts holding the float to your Scott water feature and line up the holes with the stainless steel arm. Reinsert the bolt through the body, float, and stainless steel arm with a washer. Secure with a washer and nut. Repeat for other arm assemblies.
- Attach each light to the end of the stainless steel arms using the slots. Insert a 1/2" x 1/4" bolt down through each light bracket and steel arm, then secure with a 1/4" nut. Lights can be adjusted along the arm by loosening the lock nut, moving the light, and retightening the nut.
- Connect the lights to the Timer Control Unit by lining up the pins and screwing the connector together a half turn. Avoid forcing the connection to prevent damage to the O-ring or wires.
3. Place in Water
- After assembly, the unit is ready to be placed in the water for final adjustments and securing.
- Handle the fountain carefully; do not rest its weight on the stainless steel filter.
- Once the fountain head is underwater, secure it by screwing it into place (not applicable for the DA-20).
- Float the fountain to your desired spot and tie the attached nylon ropes to the shore or use two concrete blocks submerged at least 20 feet apart.
- Finally, connect your fountain and lights to your prepared power source. Always use a ground fault circuit interrupter (GFCI) and have a qualified electrician set up the power source.
Buying Guide
Choosing Horsepower
- Horsepower affects the size and strength of your fountain's spray. Higher horsepower means more water movement and a larger or denser spray.
- Selecting horsepower depends on your budget and pond size. A good rule of thumb is to keep at least 10 feet between the fountain spray and the pond edge.
Choosing Voltage
- If you are unsure: Contact us.
- If using 115V power, consider the distance the pump can be from the breaker (including power cord length).
- For 230V, distance is usually not an issue.

Max distance from pump to breaker on 115V |
1/3 HP 115V |

1/2 HP 115V |
250' |
3/4 HP 115V |

Choosing LED Lights (Optional)
- Can be purchased now or added later. Light sets easily attach to the float.
- Lights run on 110V and come with their own power cord.
- Options include single-color warm white LED lights or color-changing LED lights.
- Both options include a programmable timer, and the color-changing lights come with a remote control effective up to 1,000 feet away.
- 2-light sets are suggested for 1 HP and smaller motors.
- 3-light sets are suggested for 1.5 HP and 2 HP motors.
- 4-light sets are suggested for 3 HP motors.
Choosing Timers (Optional)
- Can be purchased now or added later.
- Timers are for controlling fountains only, not lights.
- FAQ: The difference between the home and commercial 230V timer is the enclosure material (plastic for home, metal for commercial). Both do the same job.
Additional Nozzles (Optional)
- Undecided on a fountain pattern? Scott Aerator fountain pumps work with all Scott Aerator nozzles.
- Choose from 9 different nozzles for various spray patterns!
- Note: Not all nozzles are available for every motor size. Make sure you select nozzles compatible with the correct horsepower.

FAQ
Fountains
Q: How do I pick the right fountain?
A: This is a common question. First, decide if your main goal is aeration, looks, or both. If aeration is the priority, look at our Aerating Fountains, which move more water than purely decorative fountains. If looks are key, there are many choices. Make sure your pond is deep enough and the spray won't go beyond the edges. Each fountain product page lists the spray dimensions.
Note: Fountains can effectively aerate water up to about 6 feet deep.
Q: What horsepower should I choose for my fountain?
A: Horsepower indicates the motor size, which affects the spray pattern size. Ensure your pond is deep enough and the spray won't reach the banks, regardless of horsepower. Our fountains work best for ponds a quarter acre or larger, depending on shape. Consider your budget and desired size when choosing horsepower.
Q: Should I hire someone to install my fountain?
A: A qualified electrician should set up the power source if one isn't already there. Our fountains are fairly easy to install once the power is ready. Many customers successfully install their own fountains to save money, but consider your own abilities.
Q: Which is better for me: 110-120V or 210-240V?
A: 210-240 volts is generally better if the power source is more than 70 feet from the main breaker. Make sure your power source can handle the higher voltage to provide enough power for continuous operation. Choosing the lower voltage might result in on-and-off operation or reduced performance if the pond is too far from the main breaker. Contact us with any questions.
Q: Are lights included in the price?
A: No, lights are not included by default. You can order them with your fountain or separately later. Attaching them to the floating unit is simple and a worthwhile addition.
Q: What determines the power cord cost?
A: Material cost is a big factor. Power cords for fountains range from 14-gauge copper or stainless steel wire to 4-gauge copper or stainless steel wire, depending on the fountain size and cord length.
Q: Can I leave my fountain in the water during winter?
A: Scott Aerator Fountains can stay in operation through the winter. You can either run them constantly or turn them off completely. Once the ice melts, you can start them again.
Aerators
Q: Can aeration improve fish health and pond clarity?
A: Yes, absolutely. Aeration is the first step towards getting a clear pond.
Q: How do I choose the right aerator?
A: Your pond's size and depth will help you choose. Our website lists products by pond size (in acres). Surface Aerators and Aerating Fountains are good for ponds less than six feet deep, while Sub-Surface aerators are recommended for deeper ponds.
Q: How do I install my aerator?
A: Consult a qualified electrician if a power source hasn't been set up near the pond. Our aerators are designed for easy installation once the power source is ready. Many customers successfully install the equipment themselves to save money, but consider your own abilities.
Q: How should I set up aeration?
A: An effective setup includes a surface aerator or aerating fountain along with a Sub-Surface aerator to circulate oxygen released from the pond bottom.
